Final Week

Premier Champions Group
This week is has been great to see so much work on reading.  We have learners who are going to be helping in the library, we have had a group of boy engaging in a football themed reading programme working with learners from Ysgol y Faenol and we are awaiting the arrival of the bronze, silver and gold badges to reward learners who are ‘Daring to Achieve’ in their reading.

A group of learners rehearsing.
This week rehearsals have started for High School Musical.  I cannot wait to see how this comes together.  I’m sure it will be fantastic.  I’m hoping to pop in to the rehearsals in the first week back.

As I said last week we have had a group of learners who have been in Italy for the week.  They have had an amazing time and visited a huge range of places.  I have included just some of the photographs but we will add some more during this week.

Finally I had a great meeting with all the learners who are involved in the School Council, Eco Committee,  Sports Ambassadors and SNAG Group.  It was great to hear their ideas on how we can further improve learner voice in the school.  I look forward to working on our plans with the learners.

This week...

Here goes my second update and there is much to share with you.

A group of leaners this week had the opportunity to work with Sophie McKeand.  Sophie was working with learners on extended writing and it was great to see the work that was produced.  Sophie is a writer based in Wales she has poetry published in Adbusters, Dark Mountain and Poetry Wales magazine with new work due for publication in Earthlines (November 2014). Various pieces have also been broadcast on BBC Radio Wales whilst DRKMTRs The Wild Hunt, also appears on the stunning Dark Mountain vinyl album From the Mourning of the World.

Sophie made some lovely comments about our learners;

‘I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the group this week... You have some really talented students there who were a joy to work with… That’s what makes me love my job!’

This is a great example of learners’  ‘Daring to Achieve.’

This week was also our Sixth Form Open Evening.  There was a good number of learners looking to join us in September 2015 in the Sixth Form.  It was great to see so many learners from Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan wanting to continue their studies with us and learners from other areas looking to join us.

You may also be aware that we had a small fire in school on Thursday.  This was caused by a faulty battery in a soap dispenser.  I can assure you that all appropriate actions have been taken following this incident.

This week we have learners heading off to Italy as part of our work with twelve other European countries.  I will let you know how they are getting on next week.
