Sharing the Excellence !

As we approach the end of term there is so much to share with you.  As there is so much I am going to post a couple of blogs over the next day or two.

This first blog is focussing on some of the excellent work that has been produced in Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan over the last year.  I particularly wanted to share with you some of the incredible Art and DT work.

I hope you enjoy seeing the excellent work that has been produced.

Murder Mystery Event

It was great to see Year Six in school this week.  We had over 180 learners from across the Primary Schools joining us on a Murder Mystery event.  The learners spent the day pitting their wits against the scientific problem of who committed the murder.  It was great to see the learners in the science lab looking at hair samples under the microscope and recalling the information they had seen in the reconstruction.

Other Transition Dates

Thursday 25th and Friday 26th June 2015
Tuesday 30th June 2015 - Year Six Parents' Induction Evening.

We really do look forward to meeting the learners again as part of the transition programme next week where they will be joining us for two days.  If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak to Mr Andrew Goodwin or Ms Sarah Banim.

Great first week back.

As always there have been a huge amount of positive activities for us to share with you this week.

As regular readers of the blog will be aware we have been focussing a great deal on reading in the school.  This means that all of our learners in Year 7 and Year 8 take part in the Accelerated Reader programme.  This encourages learners to read for pleasure and check their understanding of the books they have read through fun quizzes online.  We have introduced badges to reward learners and many learners have bronze, silver or gold badges for their reading.

This week Mr Williams (Assistant Headteacher) gave out the badges that had been achieved in the last half term.

Still on the theme of literacy we have had over 150 Year 4 learners in school this week working on a Myths and Legends programme encouraging them to do some creative writing.  It has been great to see them in school and enjoying the learning.  Equally impressive have been the Year Nine learners who have helped with this activity.  They have been a credit to themselves and the school.

Vocational Courses
Some of you may be aware that one of the unique features of our schools is the excellent vocational provision in Construction and Hair and Beauty.  These courses really are something we are very proud of.  This half term we have opened a new Hair and Beauty Salon in the school.  This is a working environment which welcomes clients and allows learners to gain real life experience whilst gaining their qualifications in the area.  Look out for more information on this.

Chocoholics Enjoy

This week a group of learners finished a project they had been working on in English and Music.  Learners had to pull together the marketing for a bar of chocolate in English and then pitch this to the rest of the class.  They also had to compose and produce a jingle in music to go with their marketing.

Earlier in the week learners presented their work to a real life chocolatier, Benjamin Lee in school.  He was really impressed with the learners work and has offered some learners the chance to make their chocolate bar.

Learners in Germany

A small group of learners took part in the final visit as part of twelve European exchanges during the last two years.  Learners were in Bremen, Germany and had a great time and represented the school and the community exceptionally well.  We are now working on pulling together the experience from all learners who have participated in this project and planning our next programme of visits.
