Challenge Week

The school vision.  All boxes have been ticked this week and it has been wonderful to see.
This week it would be impossible to cover all the activities that have happened in school.  Each Year Group in Year 7 - 9 have been taking part in a range of challenges and activities to help develop their skills and knowledge in many areas.  It has been amazing to see so much going on.  Learners have written and marketed their own books, others have been computer programming.  A group of learners undertook a survival course whilst others designed, made and glazed their own pottery work.  All this took place whilst other learners were practicing the school production - High School Musical.

High School Musical - The Cast from Emrys
Last night was the final performance of High School Musical which was played out to a packed audience.

Learner's were fantastic.  They really did 'Dare to Achieve'.

The production was brought together by a large number of people.  As I was chatting to the cast at the interval it struck me how many people had been involved in pulling this production together.  It highlighted the community that is Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan and the willingness of many people to quietly get on with making something happen.

Now the question on everyone's mind is what will next years production be ??? ...

One of the challenges for Year Nine this week was to report on all the events in their year group.  Attached is a link to the booklet they produced.  It's a great record of all the work that has gone on.
Please follow the link to see all the activities that have been on offer.  Below are just a few!

Mountain Biking Group - These learners had also been involved First Aid training.
Conwy Sports -  The learners had a go at a range of sports including 'blind' cricket.  It was great to see the teamwork skills they were using.
We had a group of learners undertaking a survival course.  Map reading, building fires and of course shelter building.

Year 9 producing Art work for the Quad Area of the school.  The work was inspired by the artist  Millie Menotta.  Learners also planted some flowers in the area and it looks great.

Some Year 7 learners with Sale Sharks

Year Seven worked with the Sale Sharks on a Numeracy and Tag Rugby activity.

Also during the week they produced a wall size poster on Abergele after visiting the local library to undertake some research.

This week Year 10 have also been busy on their work experience.  We look forward to hearing how they have got on and what they have gained from the opportunity to test out their employability skills.
