Happy New Year !

Happy New Year to you All.

How great it is to be back.  It was fantastic to see the learners return to school ready to learn and full of optimism for the New Year.  This is something we will be looking to build on as the term goes on.  As always we have a busy term ahead and some great opportunities for all of our learners.

News from the English Department

Mrs Brettle’s Year 8 English class have taken part in a new poetry competition called ‘Busta Rhyme’ which encouraged them to write a poem about something they felt passionately about. Twenty one learners’ work has been selected for publication and have the chance of winning £1000 for themselves. The winner will be announced around Easter 2017. The subject matter ranged  from current affairs, religion and identity to love, loss and everything in-between. Summer Steen’s entry is entitled ‘Life isn’t Perfect’ whilst Emily Jones gave her work the title ‘Millionaire’. Other learners focused on specific issues such as Warren Parry-Jones’ work called ‘Care Home Abuse’.

The English Department enter various writing competitions each half term. There is another chance to enter the next ‘Busta Rhyme’ with the opportunity to win the next £1000 for the best poet. Closing date is Friday 17th February 2017. #Dare to Achieve.

Engage at Emrys is the name for our range of extra curricular activities we have available for all our learners.  We have a very extensive range of activities so learners can develop a wide range of skills to make them successful young people.  The latest activities are available to view on the website (See link below).  Please contact school if you have any questions regarding these.
Year 11 are starting a really important part of their preparation for the forthcoming GCSE's.  There is lots of information and support available for all our learners.  This can be found on the school website by following the link below
I will be writing to parents this week to share with them exactly what is available for all learners.
Attendance and Punctuality
As you will be aware we are very keen to ensure that all learners are in every day and that they arrive on time.  During this week the Leadership Team have been meeting learners as they are late to school and ensuring that they realise they are missing learning.  There have been very few this week and we look forward to your support on making sure learners are in school on time.
Attendance in the school is higher than ever which is fantastic, particularly worthy of note are Year 8 who had 98.4% attendance.  This is fantastic.
Admissions to the School
We have recently received a number of requests for admissions to the school.  Please see the information below on how applications can be made.  We are always ready to accept applications for our school and are happy for you to visit us and see what we can offer to your son / daughter.
